Adrien Khalili, winner of the Grand Prize at the i-PhD competition – Bpifrance – 09/19/24
Adrien Khalili Lazarjani, a post-doctoral fellow in the PHYSUF team, has won the Grand Prix of the i-PhD competition. This national competition, organized by Bpifrance, rewards young PhDs with entrepreneurial projects involving disruptive technologies. The award was presented on September 19, 2024 at a ceremony at the Cité de la Musique in Paris.
Adrien defended his thesis in 2023 at INSP under the supervision of Emmanuel Lhuillier, on the optoelectronics of infrared detectors based on nanocrystals. The NYXIR project, presented at the competition, aims to develop a new generation of infrared cameras with an active layer made of nanocrystals. This technology overcomes the limitations of traditional epitaxially grown semiconductors. The material growth is cost-effective, and in the absence of epitaxy, the active layer can be deposited directly onto the readout circuit, greatly simplifying sensor fabrication.
Additionally, nanocrystals can address the short infrared (1 – 2 µm), allowing for industrial applications such as plastic sorting and semiconductor inspection. NYXIR seeks to capitalize on the developments made at the Institut des Nanosciences de Paris by transitioning this technology from a single-pixel detector to a complete infrared camera.
