Maria Schmetterer, recipient of the IUVSTA Peter Barna Award – 06/2026

Maria Schmetterer, a doctoral student at the NSP and the CNRS/St. Gobain joint laboratory, received the IUVSTA Peter Barna Award at the 20th International Conference on Thin Films (ICTF) in Biarritz.

There, she gave a presentation titled “Interplay between morphology and plasmonics response of encapsulated Ag nanoparticles produced by magnetron sputtering.”

The Peter Barna Award recognizes young doctoral researchers for their outstanding work in the fields of thin films, surface engineering, and surface science, as presented in talks at the International Conference on Thin Films (ICTF) series organized by the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technology, and Applications (IUVSTA).
The purpose of this award is to increase the visibility of young researchers among recognized scientists associated with and participating in the ICTF conference series.
