Assembly “Ultrasonic laser for surface wave generation (100 kHz_100 MHz)”

with interferometric detection (1 Quantel 20Hz Picosecond laser + 1 Helium_Neon).

Surface wave generation is obtained by illuminating the sample surface with a focused laser pulse through a cylindrical lens. This gives a wide band spectrum that can be spread over a few tens of MHZ. A variant allowing to generate a narrow spectrum, consists in imaging on the surface of the sample an amplitude mask. The detection of the elastic waves at any point of the surface and as a function of time is made thanks to a Michelson interferometric assembly in polarized light.
