Spectroscopy of Novel Quantum States – Variable temperature tunneling microscope

Variable temperature STM (50-500K), with in situ preparation and growth chamber

This equipment commissioned in 2020 is equipped with an Omicron VT STM XA 50-500K coupled to a preparation chamber with a differentially pumped ion gun, multiple evaporators (effusion cells, electron bombardment evaporators), 1000K resistive furnace and direct current as well as a LEED/Auger spectrometer.

This equipment is mainly dedicated to the elaboration of samples and their structural study before further study by low temperature tunneling spectroscopy or on synchrotron facilities. It relieves the equipment of the exploratory phases of the elaboration of structures that may possess remarkable electronic properties.
