Abstract

Among the various solid-state platforms for quantum technologies, rare-earth-doped crystals stand out by combining, at cryogenic temperatures, long-lived optical and spin quantum states. They offer optical transitions spanning a broad spectral range—including the telecom window—along with high chemical stability and versatile doping in numerous host materials. These features enable the use of large ensembles of rare earths with highly uniform properties. In this talk, I will present recent results from our group on the development of bulk and nanostructured rare-earth-doped crystals for quantum communication, processing and transduction.
